Types of CERF Notifications

There are several types of Notifications in CERF.   The Display button on the Notifications Toolbar allows you to toggle from a List View to display as Type.

  • General - these are messages you can send and receive that are linked to CERF Resources.  Users can send general Notifications about a Resource to any number of workgroup members with access to the Resource (described below).  Recipients can perform actions on the Resource according to their access privileges and can reply to the Notification.
  • Digital Signatures - requests to co-sign a Resource with a link to the Resource are sent automatically to cosigners according to the Signature Workflow. The initiator of the signing receives additional Notifications if the signatures are rejected, cancelled, or completed.  Notifications to cosign are automatically deleted from a user's Notification pane after that person has completed the cosigning. There are also Digital Signature Notifications that depend on your business policy settings - Notifications on pending/overdue Signatures and on Unsigned Pages.
  • Printed Copies - any Notebook Resources that are printed to PDF will be displayed in the Notifications pane.  When you print the same page twice, the initial copy is generally inactivated (this depends on your business policy) and when it is inactivated, you will not be able to view it.
  • Annotations - if a member of one of your workgroups adds an annotation to any of your Resources, you will receive a Notification.
  • Controlled Documents - if Controlled Document has been created for any Resource to which you have access, you will receive a Notification so that you can mark it as Read and Understood (this may be shown as Required or Not Required).

A Notifications indicator in the lower-right corner of the CERF application tells you if you've got any unread Notifications and how many there are:    Notifications displayed in bold-face type have not been read yet.   The Notification indicator will not reset for a digital signature Notification until the Resource has been signed or for Controlled Document Notification until the Resource has been marked as Read and Understood.  For Notifications that do not require a specific action, clicking on the Notification to view the associated message will cause the Notification indicator to reset.

CERF can be configured to send a brief email message that informs you that you have received a CERF notification.  This means that you'll be reminded to log in to CERF when you've received a CERF notification.  Emailed Notifications are controlled by settings on the server and the content of the emailed Notifications depends on the business policy settings.
