Sections provide a means for organizing the content of your Notebook. They do not necessarily represent a chronological workflow. A Section may be created within a Notebook or within another Section.

To add a Section, select a Notebook or Section and click on the New button sites/default/files/images/New_4.png in the Document Tree toolbar and select New Section or right-click on a Notebook or Section and select Notebook > New Section. This launches a dialog for selecting the Section type. Select the Section template (a Basic Section contains one blank Page; an Empty Section has no Pages).  If other templates are available, they will be displayed in this dialog. Although it's optional to enter a title for the section, it's recommended so that you can differentiate one section from another.  You can always rename the section at a later time by right-clicking on it and selecting Edit|Edit metadata.  If you would like this template to be your default section template, select the checkbox. Click OK to create the section.  We suggest that you create no more than 25 Sections per Notebook in order to maximize performance.

Note: You can create templates for Sections and invoke them later.

Pages: There are two kinds of Notebook Pages: 1) a regular Notebook Page (“Page”) that can contain any number of Entries, each of which points to an embedded Resource, and 2) a Resource Page, which points to a single Resource.  Pages can be created in a Notebook or a Section.  Note that there is a business policy that determines whether Notebooks have a page limit.  We suggest that you create no more than 25 Pages per Section in order to maximize performance.

This topic explains how to create a regular Notebook Page (a separate topic explains Resource Pages). Pages in the CERF Notebook are like Pages in a paper Notebook, except that one Page can be as long as needed to include images, tables, text, and links.

To create a page, select a Notebook or Section and click on the New button sites/default/files/images/New_5.png in the Document Tree toolbar and select New Page or right-click on a Notebook or Section in the tree and select Notebook > New Page. This launches the New Page dialog. There may be several templates to choose from, but there will at least be an Empty Notebook Page Template.  Enter a new title at the bottom of the dialog (or change it later by editing metadata).  Click OK.  When you create a new Page, it automatically opens in the Notebook Viewer and you can start adding Entries to the Page.

You can also create a new page within a Notebook while you are viewing another page the Notebook Viewer. Click the New Page button sites/default/files/images/New Page_0.png on the Notebook Page Toolbar, fill in the New Page dialog (or accept the default title), and click OK.
